The Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Club have held their final Club night at the Shetland Hotel. The Hotel has been the home to the club for over 30 years but due to alterations within the Hotel, the facilities to hold the club will no longer exist.
The club are deeply indebted to the Shetland Hotel and its staff in hosting the club which has seen a huge array of local and visiting talent over the years. Countless musicians, trios, groups and bands have appeared here, not to mention the multitude of impromptu stramash sessions and collaborations. Many of todays musicians began their musical careers performing here for the first time at the club. Many club members and indeed musicians know no other than the Shetland Hotel being the home of the Club and the venue will be sorely missed.
A presentation of an engraved plaque was made by Mrs Una Simpson (Vice Chair) to Mrs Marjorie Barrie of the Shetland Hotel for its contribution to traditional music within the Isles and of the upmost and heartfelt gratitude of the Shetland Fiddle and Accordion Club Committee and Members.
